This island never ceases to amaze me. For past few weeks, our team’s travel around Malta has shown us several amazing sites. From the complex facilities at Malta Enterprise, to the bright limestone of the Mdina gate, there have been no shortage of interesting and enriching things to see.
And just when you think you have seen it all, that’s when you see some of the island’s ancient temples. This was a site that our team just viewed today. We went to investigate Heritage Malta’s work for the stone step project, and to be tourists if we had time. I can personally say that both purposes were fulfilled to a high degree. Not only did we get to see the work of Heritage Malta, in the form of a large overarching canopy and long walkways, we also saw one of the world’s oldest temples that partially stand to this day.
The size of the temple’s materials, ingenuity in design, and mysterious reasons for being built were stunning in their own right. However, this temple represented something that made Malta different than just another European country. What I found so amazing about this temple was that it predated the British, the Knights of Malta, and many other powers whose influence on the island is still seen today. Its presence made the country of Malta stand out as something truly unique in my mind. It is because of this, in addition to fulfilling a project requirement, that I am very happy for visiting this site.
